Here are this week’s power rankings:
(1) Seattle Seahawks (1); Record: 2-1
Last Week: Idle
Looking ahead at Seattle’s schedule, the Seahawks will be favored in their next eight games until they visit the San Francisco 49ers on Thanksgiving night. They should win at least 12 games this season.
(2) Green Bay Packers (4); Record: 2-2
Last Week: Won @ Chicago 38-17
Knowing I was going to pick Green Bat\y to win in Chicago I bailed on my Packers a week too soon. QB Aaron Rodgers (22 of 28, 302 yards, 4 TDs) is the man but RB Eddie Lacy’s (17 carries, 48 yards, 2.8 YPC) inability to get going against Chicago’s run D is concerning.
(3) Arizona Cardinals (5); Record: 3-0
Last Week: Idle
They are the conference’s only remaining undefeated team, but it should be noted that their plus-21 point differential is only third in the NFC and seventh in the entire NFL.
(4) San Francisco 49ers (9); Record: 2-2
Last Week: Won vs. Philadelphia Eagles 26-21
From the line of scrimmage the 49ers completely dominated the Eagles, nearly doubling them in terms of yardage (407 yards to 213), in part taking advantage of a depleted Philly O-line. If not for a defensive score and two special teams touchdowns by the Eagles this game would have been a blowout.
(5) Chicago Bears (2); Record: 2-2
Last Week: Lost vs. Green Bay 38-17
Chicago played with the Packers for a half but lost control of the game after intermission, including two interceptions to start the third quarter. It might be too simplistic, but Jay Cutler is no Aaron Rodgers. One very positive sign, after rushing the ball just 25 times combined against San Francisco and New York, Matt Forte ran the ball 23 times, cracking 100 yards for the first time this season.
(6) Dallas Cowboys (11); Record: 3-1
Last Week: Won vs. New Orleans 38-17
So…how about them Cowboys? QB Tony Romo finally has a big-time offensive line—maybe the NFL’s best?—and a balanced offense. Maybe the defense is better—hello, first-half shutout of the Saints!—than we thought. If so, Dallas is the team to beat in the NFC East.
The Next Five: (7) Detroit Lions, (8) Philadelphia Eagles, (9) Atlanta Falcons, (10) New Orleans Saints, (11) New York Giants
The Best of the Rest: Carolina Panthers & Minnesota Vikings
Put a Fork in Them: St. Louis Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers & Washington Redskins
