Here’s our second mock draft of the 2020 NFL Draft season:
1. Cincinnati Bengals
Background Check
2019 – Jonah Williams, T, 11th
2018 – Billy Price, C, 21st
2017 – John Ross, WR, 9th
2016 – William Jackson, CB, 24th
2015 – Cedric Ogbuehi, T, 21st
Draft Needs: QB, LB, OL, CB
Cincinnati has drafted three quarterbacks in the first-round. Carson Palmer (2003), Akili Smith (1999), and David Klingler (1992). Their past success has come from the second-round with selections of Boomer Esiason (1984) and Andy Dalton (2011). Nevertheless, the pick is Burrow who inherits some key pieces to the offense, which is not the case for a lot of rookie quarterbacks.
2. Washington Redskins
Background Check (1st Round)
2019 – Dwayne Haskins, QB, 15th
2019 – Montez Sweat, DE, 26th
2018 – Daron Payne, DT, 13th
2017 – Jonathan Allen, DE, 17th
2016 – Josh Doctson, WR, 22nd
Draft Needs: OL, EDGE, CB, TE, WR
Pick Is In: Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama
One thing we are missing about Tagovailoa being hurt is the battle for the top overall spot in the NFL Draft, if he was healthy. Remember the “Tank for Tua” shirts and car bumper stickers that existed before the phenomenon of Joe Burrow’s incredible 2019-20 college season? Tua was the man! Washington knows this and follows the path the Arizona Cardinals of taking first-round quarterbacks in back-to-back years.
3. Detroit Lions
Background Check (1st Round)
2019 – T.J. Hockenson, TE, 8th
2018 – Frank Ragnow, C, 20th
2017 – Jarrad Davis, LB, 21st
2016 – Taylor Decker, T, 16th
2015 – Laken Tomlinson, G, 28th
Draft Needs: CB, EDGE, OL
Disciples of Bill Belichick, both GM Bob Quinn and head coach Matt Patricia have learned the value of stock piling draft picks. The Lions miss the opportunity to stockpile draft picks if Tagovailoa was still on the table, but they do inherit the top prospect in the 2020 NFL Draft class. Young is an exceptional prospect who should bolster their defensive front immediately.
4. New York Giants:
Background Check (1st Round)
2019 – Daniel Jones, QB, 6th
2019 – Dexter Lawrence, DT, 17th
2019 – DeAndre Baker, CB, 30th
2018 – Saquon Barkley, RB, 2nd
2017 – Evan Engram, TE, 23rd
Draft Needs: CB, LB, OL, EDGE
The Giants had three number-one picks in last year’s NFL Draft. GM Dave Gettleman used the picks at quarterback, defensive tackle, and defensive back. If the Lions elect to stay put and avoid selecting a quarterback, then Gettleman is in the driver’s seat once again to add more ammunition to their pile of young prospects. Okudah is the guy if the Giants stay put with the fourth-overall pick.
