If your a birdwatcher, you should note that having a garden in your backyard is much better for your pastime than bird feeders. According to mnn.com, "Backyard bird feeders... have downsides, including attracting unwanted critters from raccoons to coyotes to bears, to providing a small range of food to a small group of birds, with much of it getting wasted..." A bird friendly garden, on the other hand, will most like attract a wider variety of birds and they're less likely to run away if a human approaches. They're acclimated to gardens having a lively environment.
