Even though purveyors of Valentine's Day cards would have Americans think otherwise, psychologists say there are often valid reasons for choosing not to be in a relationship. According to Business Insider, reasons range from the obvious--like simply not wanting to be involved with anyone--to the more subtle, like knowing you're not ready to commit, or feeling external pressure to pair up with someone. Other good reasons to stick to the single life include wanting to spend more time on one's career or personal interests, being a poor communicator or having deep-seated emotional issues, or not having gotten over a previous heartbreak.
