U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley is responding to the rumors that she's having an affair with Donald Trump.

She calls the rumor started by Fire and Fury author Michael Wolff “disgusting” and says that it shows the kind of accusations women in the workplace face on a regular basis.

“It's absolutely not true,” Haley said during Politico's podcast “Women's Rule,” which aired on Thursday, January 25. “But it goes to a bigger issue that we need to always be conscious of. At every point in my life, I've noticed that if you speak your mind and you're strong about it and you say what you believe, there is a small percentage of people that resent that. And the way they deal with it is try and throw arrows – lies or not – to diminish you.”

Haley said that she's experienced similar attacks and rumors throughout much of her political career. This isn't the first time that she's been the center of affair rumors. Haley became South Carolina's first female governor before taking on a role in the administration. But she claims that the attacks and rumors don't discourage her from doing her job.

“That isn't something that's just happened as a Cabinet member: I saw this as a legislator, I saw this when I was a governor, I see it now, I see them do it to other women,” Haley said. “Do I like it? No. Is it right? No. Is it going to slow me down? Not at all. Any time this has happened, it only makes me fight harder, it only makes me work harder. And I do it for the sake of other women that are behind me.”

Wolff revealed in an interview with Bill Maher this week that his book hinted about someone with whom Trump was having an affair. Wolff said he was “absolutely sure” the claim was true but it is “so incendiary that I just didn't have the ultimate proof.” A line towards the end of the book says that Trump has been spending “a notable amount of private time with Haley” on Air Force One that lead readers to speculate it was her.

Haley claims she's only been on Air Force One “once and there were several people in the room when I was there.” She then added, “I've never talked once to the President about my future and I am never alone with him.” Trump has called Fire and Fury a “phony” book and the White House said it's a “book full of lies.”

It's still not a good look for Haley who's been visiting her Trump island residency a lot lately. Despite her lack of experience, she takes her job with the UN seriously. A UN source told Vanity Fair that she is “probably the best” of the 15 UN ambassadors.

“She gets your attention, she is in the eye of the camera, and she knows how to keep your attention,” the anonymous person said. “It is not that she is not good, but she is definitely not a diplomat.”

Haley's demeanor has been described as “frank” and “upfront,” which makes her a great politician and an important part of Trump's administration.
