White House to Pass on Top South Korea Ambassador Candidate

Victor Cha, the top candidate for US ambassador to South Korea, is expected to be passed on by the White House after he reportedly disagreed with some of Donald Trump's policies on North and South Korea. Cha, who is considered to be one of the leading experts on the Korean peninsula, served as director for Asian affairs for the National Security Council during the George W. Bush administration. Trump's administration originally floated Cha's candidacy last August, and even notified South Korea of its intent to select Cha for the role just last month.
