Michael Slager has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for killing Walter Scott.
He was sentenced for second-degree murder and obstruction of justice.
The former South Carolina police officer pleaded guilty to shooting the black motorist over two years ago.
The fatal shooting sparked a national controversy over the use of lethal force and racial profiling.
Scott was unarmed when Slager shot and killed him following a traffic stop.
U.S. District Judge David Norton stated the former police officer attacked with malice and recklessness by shooting the unarmed motorist.
