On Tuesday, the British Parliament began several hours of debate over when exactly the United Kingdom should leave the European Union. It was the first day of what promises to be a lengthy series of debates regarding Prime Minister Theresa May’s blueprint for leaving the EU, however, May was absent on Tuesday, occupied with another engagement, which suggests that she is not unduly ruffled by the initial debates. However, the discussions could challenge May's increasingly diminished authority, and even force major changes to her overall Brexit plan. Questions under discussion included arguments over when the two-year negotiating period for Brexit should end, or whether there should be a fixed time for negotiating at all.
