Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will visit Myanmar on Wednesday. Many are hoping this visit is the start of a more forceful intervention to what some are calling an anti-muslim genocide. 600,000 Rohingya muslims have been killed or forced to flee their homes after a vicious crackdown by the Myanmar military in Rakhine State. A senior Bangladeshi government official told POLITICO.“We hope and believe that Tillerson will convey a very tough message to the Burmese military because the violence is still going on.” The United States has pledged millions in humanitarian aid which will mostly go to Bangladesh, where many of the Rohingya refugees have fled to. Human rights activists are hoping that Tillerson will insist Myanmar give aid groups and U.N investigators access to the conflict zone and also set things in motion to allow dislocated Rohingya return home in peace.
