At least six people are dead after a Home Depot truck plowed through a Lower Manhattan bike path near Stuyvesant High School on Tuesday afternoon.

During the incident, police say a truck rammed into victims on the bike path at West Street and Chambers Street at 3:15 p.m. The suspect then got out of the vehicle with two guns but was shot and apprehended by police, the New York Post reported.

The man ran over two people before plowing into a school bus, the Post added. The New York Daily News noted that witnesses reported hearing as many as 15 gunshots after the second crash. The unidentified driver shot two more people after exiting the truck.

Some witnesses initially believed the incident to be some sort of Halloween prank. Videos of the incident showed four bodies scattered along the bike path, which runs along the Hudson River.

Initial reports of an active shooter came in at about 3 p.m.

This story is currently still developing.
