Mifepristone, a pill that can be used to end pregnancies, has gotten a bad reputation from the FDA. When it was first released in 2000, it had many restrictions and qualifications for prescription as we were not 100% sure of the safety data. But now, almost 2 decades later, we are much more knowledgable about the medication yet the regulations remain. In some states, it is so heavily regulated that no one may receive it without a prescription from a doctor approved under a rare FDA agreement. It is worth noting the abortion pill has been proven safer than many medicines prescribed and given freely, including Viagra. The ACLU is suing the federal government in hopes to make this part of healthcare accessible for all.
