U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin is reportedly pushing for the White House to name Jerome Powell as the next chair of the Federal Reserve. Powell, a current Federal Reserve governor, previously worked in George H.W. Bush's Treasury Department and was also a partner at private equity firm Carlyle Group. Since he joined the Reserve's board in 2012, the 64-year-old has worked with current chair Janet Yellen, and her predecessor, Ben Bernanke, to craft the central bank’s monetary and regulatory policies following the 2008 financial crisis.
