A deadly plague epidemic has hit major cities and towns in Madagascar and it shows no sign of slowing down. As of October 7th, the Madagascar Health Ministry reported that 343 people have been infected and 42 have died. The island country is regularly hit by plague outbreaks, but the pneumonic plague is one of the deadliest forms and the World Health Organization is on high alert. The organization has assessed the risk of national spread high, regional spread moderate, and international spread low, but those rankings are being reassessed. Since October 6th, 1.2 million doses of antibiotics have been delivered to the country and $1.5 million has been given to fight the outbreak.
