Deadly Ambush in Niger Highlights America's Growing Mission in Africa

The death of four American Soldiers due to a militant ambush that happened in Niger on Wednesday, led many looking for answers on what exactly are the American military commitments in Africa? The U.S has various operations across the continent. Targeting ISIS forces and Al Qaeda, seeking Al-Shabaab militants and Boko Haram Extremists. Africa Command or AFRICOM was established in 2007 and is now partners with 13 African countries. Their goals are to “disrupt and neutralize transnational threats” as well as promoting “ regional security, stability and prosperity” They are there to contribute to stability in Africa.
