New York Court Dismisses Tax Fraud Case

on Wednesday, A Manhattan court dismissed a $250 million civil tax fraud case against Russian-American businessman Felix Sater. Sater was a former associate of President Donald Trump. The civil tax-fraud case against the real-estate company Sater cofounded, Bayrock, was being prosecuted as a qui tam case. This allows a whistleblower to file on the state's behalf. It further allows the attorney general's office to either intervene, or not. The alleged whistleblower was a lawyer named Fred Oberlander. at one point he represented Sater's former business partner in a money-laundering lawsuit against Bayrock.
