Paris will finally host the Olympics, after many years of bidding for it. The International Olympic Committee on Wednesday is set to formally announce the host cities for the next two Summer Olympic Games: Paris in 2024 and Los Angeles in 2028. The decision marks the first time the U.S. has hosted a summer game since 1996, and the third time L.A. will host. Paris last hosted the Games in 1924. France has been under a state of emergency since November 2015 due to terrorist attacks, and the Paris region saw 1.5 million fewer visitors in 2016. Tourism is on the rise in 2017, and the French capital hopes that the Olympics will further support the city's comeback.
