A hidden preview in a recent Android beta version revealed that a future version of Facebook owned WhatsApp will launch UPI based payments in-app. UPI stands for Unified Payments Interface and it has been developed by National Payments Corporation of India. Since demonetization, digital payments have been gaining more and more importance in India. Facebook has already introduced digital payments in the Facebook Messenger in the US and is expected to launch it in India too. The feature is currently hidden in the Beta version and still under development.
