On Monday, White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Donald Trump did discuss Russian sanctions related to alleged meddling in the 2016 election when he met with Vladimir Putin last week. The comments directly contradict what the President said a day earlier. At an off-camera briefing with reporters, Sanders said of the sanctions, "I do know that it was mentioned, specifically. There were sanctions specific to election meddling that I believe were discussed, but not beyond that." However, a day before Trump said sanctions were not discussed during his two-hour meeting, tweeting, "Sanctions were not discussed at my meeting with President Putin. Nothing will be done until the Ukrainian & Syrian problems are solved!"
