According to the state-run news agency Agencia Brasil on Thursday, the country's President Michel Temer is officially under formal investigation by the country's highest court over a new bribery scandal. The situation accuses Temer of paying a former senate colleague hush money in exchange for his silence regarding a long-running corruption investigation. According to prominent daily newspaper O Globo, a meat producer recorded the President giving the go-ahead to bribe now imprisoned former house speaker Eduardo Cunha to "keep quiet" about the investigation while he was in jail. The report adds that the information was revealed when owners of the meat and chicken conglomerate JBS testified before Brazil's Supreme Court.
