This is undoubtedly news that comes with some mixed emotions, but it's bringing out the support of his colleagues, nonetheless: just 10 months after Roger Ailes was forced to resign as chief of Fox News, he has passed away at the age of 77.

Former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson brought a sexual harassment suit against the news chief, claiming she had been fired for not succumbing to his advances. A few days later six more women claimed he'd sexually harassed them as well. Once Megyn Kelly admitted to also having been harassed, he resigned.

The news was announced Thursday morning that Ailes had passed away at the age of 77, with no known cause being given.

"Everybody at Fox News is shocked and grieved by the death of Roger Ailes," said Rupert Murdoch, executive chairman of Fox News Channel and its parent company, in a statement. "A brilliant broadcaster, Roger played a huge role in shaping America's media over the last thirty years. He will be remembered by the many people on both sides of the camera that he discovered, nurtured and promoted."

"Roger and I shared a big idea which he executed in a way no one else could have," Murdoch continued. "In addition, Roger was a great patriot who never ceased fighting for his beliefs. At 21st Century Fox we will always be enormously grateful for the great business he built. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Elizabeth and son Zachary."

Sean Hannity published several tweets honoring his former boss.

"Today America lost one of its great patriotic warriors," he wrote. "He has dramatically and forever changed the political and the media landscape singlehandedly for the better. Neither will ever be the same again as he was a true American original."

The host of Hannity on Fox News Channel went on to explain how it was Ailes who was responsible for hiring him when he was an inexperienced young radio host.

"He saw something in me and many others he hired that we never saw in ourselves, and he forever changed the trajectory of thousands of peoples lives," he tweeted comparing him to a second father.

Hannity also went on to request that the media leave Ailes and his family alone in their grief, "but knowing people that hated him and his politics, and those that forget 'all have sinned and fallen short' and 'cast the first stone,' I doubt that will happen."

Regarding Ailes' enemies, Hannity tweeted, "I say ADVANTAGE ROGER. In his mind he just has a head start in preparing to kick your ass in the next life."

The others weren't nearly as verbose in their tweets, whether they were positive or negative:

"OMG #RogerAiles is gone, devastating news, & Erica & I send our condolences to Beth, their son Zack & the entire family. He was a great man.
