On Thursday, Arkansas was ready to carry out its first execution since 2005. A ruling from the state Supreme Court allowing officials to use a lethal injection drug cleared the way for the state to proceed to execute Ledell Lee on Thursday night. Temporary stays from the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court postponed Lee's execution until 9:15 p.m. to allow time to review his case. The Supreme Court rejected appeals that would have stopped Lee's execution. However, more were pending before the high court Thursday night.
