This week, the last orca to be born in captivity at a SeaWorld park made its debut in San Antonio. The whale's birth comes a year after the theme park company said that it will stop breeding orcas following animal rights protests and declining ticket sales. The newborn's mother, 25-year-old Takara, was already pregnant when SeaWorld made its announcement in March 2016. The gestation period for orcas is said to be around 18 months. According to a spokesman for SeaWorld, the mother and calf both appear to be healthy.
