On Sunday, former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dwight Clark revealed on social media that he has been diagnosed with ALS. ALS, which is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a degenerative nerve disease that affects nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain. Clark went on to say that he suspects football caused the disease, adding that he has encouraged the NFLPA and the NFL to continue working together in their efforts to make the game of football safer, especially in terms of head trauma.
