According to a senior US official, diplomacy at the highest levels led to Iraq being removed from a revised executive order barring travel from certain countries. The official added that lobbying by the Iraqi government, including Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, brought about a successful change in policy.Abadi spoke on the phone with President Donald Trump in early February; when met with Vice President Mike Pence personally a week later in Munich. Those conversations, including additional dialogue between Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and other members of the Iraqi government addressed security measures.
