The United States Senate made it clear yesterday that they are on the side of the National Rifle Association (NRA) when the majority voted against a bill that was meant "to protect Second Amendment rights, ensure that all individuals who should be prohibited from buying a firearm are listed in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, and provide a responsible and consistent background check process," according to the Senate's website.

AllMediaNY now urges our readers who are in favor of the bill to take action and respond to those senators opposed it. This bill, if you will recall, came about in the wake of the tragedy that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., during which a gunman killed 20 children and six adults in late December, just before Christmas.

It has been clear that the nation is in need of a major reform when it comes to gun control and safety. As Vice President Joe Biden has said, it is also obvious that the public is "far ahead" of officials on gun control legislation—we know that this country needs a better system of regulating guns, yet it seems the senate is set in their ways of appeasing the NRA and those who have not yet seen how dangerous our loose gun laws can be.

Please take some time out of your day to contact your senator and urge them to change their mind. This country is in serious need of reform when it comes to firearms, and it all starts with citizens like us. Below is a list of the senators who voted against this bill (Note: This list comes directly from Senate.gov):

Comment: Thankfully, these Senators have used common sense in determining what REALLY needs to be done to improve gun control. This bill is NOT the answer and will not keep felons, mentally ill, or bad people from gaining access to hand guns and/or rifles. This bill if passed, would only be followed by law abiding citizens, which maens they loose their constitutional rights by trying to keep the bad guys from having free access to guns. GUNS do NOT kill people. Bad people with a GUN or any other weapon kill people. None of these BILLS would have prevented the recent trageties.

Comment: With the possible exception of NH has anybody else noticed that the country as a whole wouldn't miss the rest of the states whose representatives voted against the amendments? One could easily argue we'd be better off.

Comment: As my father once said: "THERE IS NO CURE FOR STUPID"..these senators by their NO vote prove my father right, there is no justification for their stupidity. They will ALL be voted out of office by the 90% of the people that they agreed to serve, they serve themselves and the greedy, non-caring NRA upper levels that guard the Gun Corp. for profit above people and children.

Comment: I notice that you have not listed the democrats that voted with the republicans on this control issue. I f we want to protect our children, give them protection at their schools!! Laws that are on the books now, and late,r make no difference, real protection would. Face facts our children are sitting ducks for every wack job that pops up, laws will NOT change that.

Comment: These individuals have chosen to take the future blood of much preventable gun tragedy on their hands. And to ignore the overwhelming will of the people. So it shall be remembered; they will never be able to go back and correct their actions. But, they should be aware that Americans wo seek sane, rational approach to this epidemic will never stop, never rest, never give up until America joins the rest of the civilized world community on this issue. It is not partisan, it is a matter of public safety.

Comment: This is an outrage. All of the senators that voted against this is just being paid by the NRA. The nra flunky Lepleur was he even born in the USA? we are listening to a man that is not given his birthplace. But he is telling good Americans to by more guns to kill themselves. White Supremeist groups, KKK, NAACP, Blacks, Hispanic groups, Native Americans, Asians, Whites. We are all listening to someone that hasn't priove his birth in the USA. The NRA as someone on their payroll that they are hiding his birthplace. Why are we listening to a foreigner about what we should do in America. We are a democratic country. we live to vote, we are Americans that says we Vote. We are not like other countries we all have freedom no matter what side we are on. We vote for our rights. We all have a right for our voices to be heard. We vote it is just that simply. We Vote. When you stop me from voting then you are stopping me to be an American. We let outsiders pay us to destroy our votes, we let outsiders make us lest Americans, we get paid to turn our backs on the one thing that makes us Americans-Voting. we try to free other countries from dictatorships, but we let people Dictate USA. Outsiders can buy us for pennies as we sale our mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, children, our whole families for some outsiders to just come and kill us all. But we are Americans, our own people, our on country. But now voting is taken away from us. Wow

Comment: Republican Senators need to compromise on all legislation for the country. They are doing nothing for the people. They have not passed anything of importance since Pres. Obama took office the first time.

Comment: For voting against gun control measures you should be FIRED, and lose all your juicy government benefits IMMEDIATELY. Voting pro NRA and against saving the lives of innocent victims, including slaughtered children, is dancing with the devil himself. Times have changed! When our founding fathers included the "right to carry arms" they never imagined a citizen shooting 6 & 7 year old children, people gathered to relax and share a common form of entertainment or students striving to improve their own knowledge and skills through continued education. We need to restrict access to firearms to anyone that may be a threat to other citizens. ENOUGH! It is time to restrict access to guns to assure only those whose intent is honorable. .

Comment: I read elsewhere that four Democrats voted against the measure. Why are their names not on this list? Mark Pryor (AK), Max Baucus (MT), Mark Begich (AK), and Heidi Heitkamp (ND)

Comment: shame on all who opposed this measure, and i for one is disgusted in the way you all do business. You need to listen to the masses of Americans who wanted this done, instead of continuing receiving handout for the NRA. Listen to the voices of America, and we'll remember what you've done when your time comes for reelections at the next polling places

Comment: Can this list go viral? Those of us in sensible states should be aware of the forces across our state borders operating against the common interest.

Comment: My letter: Dear Senator Grassley: I am disgusted with the Senate vote today on the gun bill. Disgusted and embarassed for my country. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Iowa, I have several patients who should not have access to a gun despite the fact that there is no record anywhere of any criminal history--YET. I cannot predict when they might hurt someone unless they tell me. It doesn't make sense to RE-act AFTER the violence has taken place. If gun owners were only shooting themselves--great! But they are killing other peoples children, spouses, families, friends. Mentally ill people are not always obvious or predictable, nor do they consider the consequences of violence. Often, they welcome it. Many times people are not mentally ill--until they snap. I know a licensed therapist in Iowa who is severely depressed and bought a gun with the intent of killing her ex husband. Should we WAIT and prosecute her heavily AFTER she kills him? GUNS KILL. period. We need to limit access. period. A mentally ill person will not shoot anyone if they don't HAVE a gun. For once, let's represent Iowa as PROactive rather than REactive. Respectfully, Melissa Tansey Maranda Licensed Mental Health Counselor Parent Iowa resident and voter
