NTSB Releases Preliminary Report on NJ Transit Crash

2016-10-13 14:38:431 Oct 2018 01:53 AM EST

According to a federal report, a commuter train that careened into a New Jersey station last month had working brakes.
Though parts of the NJ Transit train suffered catastrophic damage at the Hoboken Terminal, federal investigators found an air brake system from the front cab car they repaired and tested.
They also tested brakes from the rear of the train.
The preliminary report from the NTSB stated those brakes functioned as designed, though the report did not give a reason for the cause of the crash.
Investigators also discovered that the train's emergency braking system was initiated a second before the crash.
