DoJ Accuses San Francisco Police of Racial Bias

2016-10-13 03:01:531 Oct 2018 01:53 AM EST

On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Justice released a report outlining deficiencies that it has found in the San Francisco Police Department, including apparent cases of racial bias in traffic stops. The report is the first in the Justice Department's review of the California city's department, which began in February this year in response to fatal police shootings in the city that sparked angry demonstrations. According to the report, the DoJ made over 270 recommendations for the department to address issues from institutionalized and implicit racial bias against African-Americans and other minority groups to updated use of force and data collection policies.
