Obama, Congressional Leaders Talk Shutdown

2016-09-13 14:12:49

The looming threat of another government shutdown has once again brought the executive and legislative branches together at the White House.
To encourage some constructive work in the legislature, and to address the growing for Zika, President Barack Obama invited key congressional leaders for a meeting on Pennsylvania Avenue.
The meeting included Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, House Speaker Paul Ryan, and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
President Obama added that he hopes an agreement will be in place to fund a federal response to the Zika virus before Congress adjourns.
But the president insisted their first priority is to avoid a government shutdown.
