Pope Francis' Predecessor Had Doubts About Him?

2016-09-09 14:44:331 Oct 2018 01:53 AM EST

In an excerpt from his autobiography, Benedict XVI: Final Conversations, Pope Benedict XVI, who was the first pope to resign from office in modern history, admitted his doubt about his successor Pope Francis. In the book, Benedict writes of Francis, "No one expected him. When I first heard his name, I was unsure. But when I saw how he spoke with God and with people, I truly was content. And happy.” In the book, Benedict also admitted that he thinks he could have done better as Pope, saying, “My weak point perhaps is a lack of resolve in governing and making decisions."
