Dakota Access Pipeline Decision Nears, Brings More Protests

2016-09-09 14:37:141 Oct 2018 01:53 AM EST

Native American Organizers are saying that the crowds gathering to protest the oil pipeline that would take oil from North Dakota to Illinois may be the largest gathering of Natives Americans in a century. The group is protesting the Army Corps of Engineers' decision to let the planned pipeline not only run over sacred native American sites, but to also cross running water over 200 times. The protestors say that these crossing could lead to serious, dangerous oil spills throughout the life of pipeline. But proponents of the pipe say that it will be equipped with modern technology that detects leaks with in seconds, and will cut down on dangerous train transportation of oil. A Federal Judge has said he will rule on whether or not the pipeline will continue to be built on Friday.
