Brooklyn Man Posed a Police Officer, Threatened Driver

On September 5, Maurice Joiner, 20, allegedly posed as a police officer and pulled over a van near Utica Avenue and Lincoln Place after the vehicle cut him off and they exchanged words. He put on flashing blue and red lights on the dashboard of his Lincoln Aviator, and when the driver pulled over, he displayed a pistol and what appeared to be a shield, saying “I’m going to blow your head off.” The passengers in the van took down his license plate and called 911; real officers apprehended Joiner and discovered the gun, handcuffs, red and blue lights, a bulletproof vest, mace and a gold security officer shield. If convicted, he will face four years in prison.

PATH Fare Increases Today

Passengers are looking at an increase of 25 cents in order to ride the PATH between New York and New Jersey. Beginning Wednesday, single-ride tickets cost $2.75 and two-trip tickets cost $5.50. In 2011, the Port Authority announced that the fare would increase at a rate of a quarter per year to fund a 10-year plan. This project funds extending PATH lines to Newark airport, replacing the Harrison PATH station and renovating the Grove Street station.

Man Steals Woman’s Purse at Astoria Subway Station, Uses Debit Card

The NYPD is trying to identify a man who allegedly stole a woman’s purse at the 31st Street-Astoria Boulevard N and Q subway station on Friday night. He took the bag, which contained her credit cards, debit card, and a MacBook Pro laptop from a bench. He then attempted to use her debit card at a deli on 2572 Adam Clayton Powell Blvd. in Harlem, but wasn’t able to get money. Police have surveillance footage of the subway stop; the suspect is a black male about 35 years old, standing six feet tall.
