NYPD Investigating Central Park Assault

The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force has taken up an investigation of an assault that occurred Monday in Central Park. A 36-year-old woman was attacked while exiting the park last Monday near 60th Street and West Drive at approximately midnight. The victim told police that she was struck in the head by a pellet while jogging in the park, resulting in some minor lacerations and accompanied pain. She also saw three black men and two black women laughing nearby and making “anti-white statements”. EMS responded at the scene and took the jogger to Roosevelt hospital; she was treated and released.

Demolition Begins at 5Pointz

5Pointz, the graffiti mecca in Long Island City, Queens, is undergoing demolition after months of threats from city officials. Large trucks showed up on Friday night at the building on Davis Street, the site where graffiti artists would congregate from 1993 to 2013 to use the walls as their canvas. The graffiti stood until the building’s developer had the building whitewashed late last year. Now, the artwork will be completely gone and luxury housing units will stand in its place. The demolition is expected to take three to four months to complete.

5 Injured After Car Jumps Curb in Harlem

Five people were hospitalized Friday night after a car jumped the curb in Harlem near Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard and 145th Street in Harlem, according to the FDNY. The cargo van was cut off by another car, causing it to jump the curb and strike a building. It then bounced off the building and came to rest, striking a woman on the sidewalk. Witnesses say a child was rescued from the car by firefighters. Three of the victims had serious but non life-threatening injuries, while while the other two suffered from minor injuries. At this time, there is no information on their identities.
