Alan Dershowitz: 'Glenn Greenwald Never Met a Terrorist He Didn't Like'

Journalist Glenn Greenwald responded to recent criticism that has come his way for providing exiled National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden with an outlet in the media, insisting that he should not be considered “anti-American” for allowing the former government contractor an outlet to speak.

Greenwald’s comments come in response to Harvard Law School’s Alan Dershowitz, who had characterized him as being a “hard-left ideologue” for supporting and propping up Snowden, an accusation that Greenwald dismissed as “ludicrous.”

“As far as Greenwald is concerned, you know, he’s an ideologue,” Dershowitz told CNN’s Dana Bash yesterday in discussing the journalist’s actions, using some very choice words to describe his feelings towards the American government.

“You know, he doesn’t like America. He doesn’t like Western democracies. He’s never met a terrorist he didn’t like.”

Greenwald, though, thought those accusations were both unfair and unfounded.

“I think what Edward Snowden did is very admirable and heroic,” Greenwald told MSNBC’s Kristen Welker during an appearance on the network.

“But at the same time the ultimate test of a journalist is — is what you publish accurate and reliable?”

He also admitted to never holding back his personal feelings on the matter of leaking the NSA’s controversial surveillance program.

“I don’t make any bones about the fact that I consider what Edward Snowden did to be quite heroic,” Greenwald said. “I, as a journalist, am very grateful when people sacrifice their own interest to come forward to bring transparency to the United States government. That to me is what journalism is about.”
