Here’s our second mock draft of the 2020 NFL Draft season (Picks: 1-4):

5. Miami Dolphins

Background Check (1st Round)
2019 – Christian Wilkins, DT, 13th
2018 – Minkah Fitzpatrick, S, 11th
2017 – Charles Harris, LB, 22nd
2016 – Laremy Tunsil, T, 13th
2015 – DeVante Parker, WR, 14th
Draft Needs: QB, EDGE, RB, CB, OL

Pick Is In: Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon

Dan Marino retired in 1999 and the Dolphins are still searching for a franchise quarterback. That task will now be on the shoulders of Herbert who was projected as a future top prospect during the 2018 college season. He returned to Oregon and remains a first-round talent. Herbert has a prototypical frame for the position of quarterback in the National Football League. He’ll be able to sit in the pocket and survey the field easily, as well as take a hit.

6. Los Angeles Chargers

Background Check (1st Round)
2019 – Jerry Tillery, DT, 28th
2018 – Derwin James, S, 17th
2017 – Mike Williams, WR, 7th
2016 – Joey Bosa, DE, 3rd
2015 – Melvin Gordon, RB, 15th
Draft Needs: QB, QL, CB, LB

Pick Is In: Mekhi Becton, OL, Louisville

Anthony Lynn can mention Tyrod Taylor as a possible starting quarterback for Los Angeles but that is not a long-term solution for the Chargers. The mutual decision between Philip Rivers and the Chargers to go down different paths leaves a huge question mark on the franchise. Becton provides help at a needed position, but the craving for a high-caliber quarterback is going to be intense.

7. Carolina Panthers

Background Check (1st Round)
2019 – Brian Burns, DE, 16th
2018 – D.J. Moore, WR, 24th
2017 – Christian McCaffrey, RB, 8th
2016 – Vernon Butler, DT, 30th
2015 – Shaq Thompson, OLB, 25th
Draft Needs: QB, DL, CB, S, TE

Pick Is In: Isaiah Simmons, LB/S, Clemson

The Panthers enter a strange offseason. Matt Rhule replaced Ron Rivera as head coach, All-Pro linebacker Luke Kuechly retired, and Cam Newton was released. Simmons is such a multi-faceted player that can fill more than one need with his versatility.

8. Arizona Cardinals

Background Check (1st Round)
2019 – Kyler Murray, QB, 1st
2018 – Josh Rosen, QB, 10th
2017 – Hasson Reddick, LB, 13th
2016 – Robert Nkemdiche, DE, 29th
2015 – D.J. Humphries, T, 24th
Draft Needs: WR, DL, OL, CB, RB

Pick Is In: CeeDee Lamb, WR, Oklahoma

Conventional wisdom suggests that Arizona would select Derrick Brown from Auburn if he were still available. The defensive tackle serves both a need and is a top-five talent. NFL Mock Draft predictions never come to fruition! Yes, they’ve added DeAndre Hopkins, but Larry Fitzgerald can’t play forever and 2019 second-round pick Andy Isabella caught nine passes all season. Lamb and Murray were teammates at Oklahoma, which should help ease the rookie receiver into the league with the familiarity of his quarterback. Lamb had a whopping 21.4 YPC in 2019.
