Coronavirus Is Making Scientific Endeavors Grind To A Halt

2020-02-18 02:23:331 Oct 2018 01:53 AM EST

In large parts of China, normal daily life has come to a virtual standstill due to the COVID-19 outbreak. And according to Science Magazine, so has science. Universities across the country remain closed; access to labs is restricted, and projects have been mothballed. Also, field work has been interrupted, and travel has been severely curtailed. Scientists around the world are noticing an impact as well. That's because collaborations with China are on pause and scientific meetings for the next five months have been canceled or postponed. The damage to science may pale to the human suffering; the total number of cases has risen to 71,429 and there have been 1775 deaths.
