Take No Prisoners: Woman Sues, Wins Lawsuit Against Jailers

2019-12-19 00:02:281 Oct 2018 01:53 AM EST

HuffPost reports a woman has received a $120,000 from Ramsey County, Minnesota. Aida Shyef Al-Kadi says she was forced to remove her hijab in front of male jailers while taking a booking photo. The 57-year-old said her experience at Ramsey County jail in August 2013 was one of the most humiliating and harmful experiences of her life. Al-Kadi's legal troubles stemmed from failing to appear in traffic court because she had to take her daughter to the hospital. When she was arrested, she was handled roughly and forced to remove her head covering before male jailers. She agreed to have a booking photo taken without her hijab, with the understanding the photo would be kept private. However, the photo was released to local media. Al-Kadi then decided to represent herself in court, studying law at a local law library. I knew that I did not want any other Muslim woman to experience what I did. Aida Shyef
