Pregnant Women Who Use Marijuana Daily May Impact Fetal Health

2019-12-05 15:23:221 Oct 2018 01:53 AM EST

An increasing number of women are using marijuana to cope with pregnancy symptoms like nausea. However, new evidence shows that using the substance daily could affect fetal development. A new study shows pregnant women who used marijuana daily had fetuses with lower weights, smaller heads, and smaller abdomens. The differences were seen most notably in the third trimester when compared to women who never used marijuana. Additionally, the third-trimester fetuses of daily users had reduced blood flow, which may affect their physical growth. Researchers did not find significant differences between daily users and never-users in their first and second trimesters. According to Business Insider, the study didn't follow the pregnant women through the birth of their babies.
