DOJ Says 'Cooperative' Rick Gates Will Be Sentenced Soon

2019-11-12 00:31:041 Oct 2018 01:53 AM EST

US Department of Justice attorneys say Rick Gates is ready to be sentenced in mid-December. It potentially closes one of the final open chapters from special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation. The proposal to finally hand down Gates’ punishment next month came in a one-page joint status report filed on Monday. Gates’ sentencing has been postponed numerous times since he began to cooperate with federal prosecutors. According to Politico, Gates' cooperation began after he pleaded guilty in February 2018 to financial fraud and lying to investigators. Politico reports the filing says the onetime deputy of the 2016 Trump campaign “continues to cooperate."
