Toxic Algae Found In New York City Parks

2019-08-26 22:01:061 Oct 2018 01:53 AM EST

A toxic algae is being blamed for the deaths of multiple dogs across the U.S. this summer.
HuffPost reports the algae have been detected in three New York City parks, prompting a warning to dog owners.
Cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae, grows on the surface of water and can be fatal to dogs.
Harmful algal blooms (HABs) were detected in recent weeks in Central Park’s Harlem Meer and Morningside Park.
In Brooklyn, high levels of the toxic blooms have also been found in Prospect Park Lake, which features a popular dog beach.
