According to CNN, on Thursday President Donald Trump will announce an executive action on a census question that has sparked debate. White House officials say that Trump's action will directly address a citizenship question that was blocked by the Supreme Court in late June. The Supreme Court's move prevents the question from being added to the 2020 census. The Trump administration wants the census question to focus on asking participants about their citizenship status. It would be the first time a question of its kind has appeared on the census since 1950. CNN explains, "a move that could impact the balance of power in states and the House of Representatives, which are based on total population. " Opponents believe that including the question could result in minorities being undercounted. CNN explains that an action taken by the President to challenge the Supreme Court's decision will likely to be challenged in court this summer.
