According to a report by Reuters, on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump stood by his statement that part of the migrant deal with Mexico had yet to be made public, as Mexican officials began to unveil new details of the agreement. On Monday, Mexican officials reportedly said that they had 45 days to show that increased enforcement efforts were effective at stemming the flow of migrants at the United States' southern border. Reuters reports that the US is looking for Mexico to be declared a safe third country in which asylum seekers could seek safe harbor instead of the United States, a possibility that Mexico has long rejected. Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard reportedly reversed his previous opposition to that possibility, before going on to suggest that any such arrangement should share the asylum load with other Latin American countries.
