Missing sleep can certainly make you perform poorly in school or at work, but can it damage your DNA? Researchers from the University of Hong Kong studied 49 doctors to determine if lack of sleep affected their DNA. Mother Nature Network reports that researchers analyzed blood samples from physicians who slept 7-8 hours per night versus physicians who only slept in 2-3 hours intervals. The researchers found the subjects with interrupted sleep had signs of DNA damage. Researchers said DNA damage may be linked to an increased risk for cancer and cardiovascular, metabolic, and neurodegenerative diseases.
