According to a report by Reuters, on Thursday, senior administration officials said that US President Donald Trump will outline an immigration plan aimed at hardening border ports of entry and making the legal migration system based more on English proficiency and employment. The proposed changes, largely the product of senior advisors Jared Kushner and Stephen Miller and economic aide Kevin Hassett, are reportedly an effort to provide a framework for Republicans to rally around. Reuters reports that while the proposals are unlikely to be approved by Congress, they offer Republicans a plan to favor as the party looks toward November 2020 presidential and congressional elections, where immigration is likely to be a key issue.
