Pittsburgh—NFL Mock Draft 1.0 (1-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-16, 17-20) picks 21-24:

21. Seattle Seahawks

Background Check (1st Round)
2018 – Rashaad Penny, RB, 27th
2017 – No Pick
2016 – Germain Ifedi, G, 31st
2015 – No Pick
2014 – No Pick

Pick Is In: D.K. Metcalf, WR, Ole Miss, Jr.

Seattle surprised many when selecting Rashaad Penny with the 18th overall pick last season and I expect them to continue to address the offense. Tight end could be a real possibility as well with Seattle lacking a full arsenal of weapons to maximize Russell Wilson’s abilities. Wilson arguably played his best football last season, without luxury items plenty other top quarterbacks have on their rosters.

Side Note – In their last six drafts, the Seahawks have only had a first-round pick twice. Antonio Brown appears in love with the idea of playing for the San Francisco 49ers, but it might be another NFC West that trades for his services. Seattle is not afraid to make moves.

22. Baltimore Ravens

Background Check (1st Round)
2018 – Hayden Hurst, TE, 25th
2018 – Lamar Jackson, QB, 32nd
2017 – Marlon Humphrey, CB, 16th
2016 – Ronnie Stanley, T, 6th
2015 – Breshad Perriman, WR, 26th

Pick Is In: Deebo Samuel, WR, South Carolina, Sr.

Ozzie Newsome leaves new Ravens GM Eric DeCosta huge shoes to fill. Newsome gave up the post to DeCosta and a new era begins in Baltimore. The Ravens outplayed their talent last season with credit to John Harbaugh for getting every ounce out of his team to win the AFC North. The development of Lamar Jackson is the key moving forward. Samuel had a great Senior Bowl week and if he can remain healthy he is a legit NFL weapon, with No. 1 receiver ability. Over the past 15 years, they’ve twice selected receivers in the first-round, in 2015 (Breshad Perriman) and 2005 (Mark Clayton). Expect the position to be addressed again because it is vital to get Jackson help.

Side Note – Newsome has picked twice in the first-round four times over the course of his 23 years as GM of the Ravens. His odds at striking gold on either Hayden Hurst or Jackson (2018 1st-round picks) bold well in his favor. His past winners when selecting twice in round one include Jonathan Ogden (HOF), Ray Lewis (HOF), Jamal Lewis, and Terrell Suggs. The disappointments were Kyle Boller and Travis Taylor.

23. Houston Texans

Background Check (1st Round)
2018 – No Pick
2017 – Derek Barnett, DE, 14th
2016 – Carson Wentz, QB, 2nd
2015 – Nelson Agholor, WR, 20th
2014 – Marcus Smith, LB, 26th

Pick Is In: Deandre Baker, DB, Georgia Sr.

The Eagles last selected a defensive back in the first round in 2002 (Lito Sheppard). Philadelphia rallied once again behind Nick Foles to surge into the playoffs and pushed the New Orleans Saints to the brink. Baker declined his invitation to play in the Reese’s Senior Bowl and will have his first taste of NFL life when he arrives at the NFL Scouting Combine. The Eagles pass defense ranked 30th overall in the league. Not the standard of a championship squad.

Side Note – The possibility that up-coming free agent and beloved quarterback Nick Foles will likely be suiting up in another uniform means the Eagles could select a quarterback at some point.

24. Oakland Raiders (via Bears)

Background Check (1st Round)
2018 – Kolton Miller, T, 15th
2017 – Gareon Conley, CB, 24th
2016 – Karl Joseph, S, 14th
2015 – Amari Cooper, WR, 4th
2014 Khalil Mack, LB, 5th

Pick Is In: Josh Jacobs, RB, Alabama

Jacobs provides an alternate route for the offense to grow. Gruden has treasured the ability to run the football and Jacobs provides all the athleticism desired by NFL teams.
