According to a report by Reuters, on Saturday, a winter storm that dumped heavy snow on the Midwest, stranding motorists in Missouri, and cancelling dozens fo flights, headed east toward Washington. The weather system, forecast to affect an 1,800 mile corridor of the US from Colorado to the mid-Atlantic, started as rain from Mexico and turned into snow as it interacted with icy air. U.S. Weather Prediction Center meteorologist Andrew Orrison said that on Friday the storm hit Kansas and Missouri and continued hammering those states into Saturday, as the storm then extended into areas of Iowa, Illinois, and Ohio. The Missouri State Highway Patrol said in a tweet on Saturday that over 1,200 motorists in Missouri had been left stranded and that four deaths had occurred on treacherous roads.
