According to a report by Reuters, on Thursday, the United Nations said that three million Venezuelans have now fled economic and political crisis in their homeland since 2015. The exodus, amounting to about one in 12 of the population, has been driven by violence, hyperinflation, and shortages of food and medicines. William Spindler of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees appealed for greater international efforts to reduce the strain on neighboring countries. Reuters reports that Colombia is currently sheltering 1 million Venezuelans, with 3,000 more arriving each day.
