According to Reuters, a US Senator said that sanctions would have to be imposed at the “highest levels” of the Saudi government if it were found that the government was behind the disappearance and reported death of a Saudi journalist. Global pressure has mounted on close U.S. ally Saudi Arabia over the whereabouts of Jamal Khashoggi, who was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. Earlier this week President Donald Trump spoke with officials in Saudi Arabia and said that the United States wants to get to the bottom of the matter.
