On Wednesday, SCOTUS wrestled with a new immigration dispute. Reuters reports that this case focuses on the federal government’s ability to detain people awaiting deportation. Can the government detain deportees who've completed prison sentences for criminal convictions? The nine justices heard an hour of arguments in an appeal from the Trump’s administration. A lower court earlier ruled in favor of immigrants. The lower court said the government undermined its ability to deport immigrants who have committed crimes.
