U.S. House Speaker Ryan Agrees NATO Should Increase Defense Spending

According to a report by Reuters, US House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan stated on Wednesday that while NATO is indispensable, President Donald Trump was right to point out that Germany and other allies must stick to their commitment to increase spending on defense. Ryan told reporters, "NATO is indispensable. It’s as important today as it ever has been. The president is right to point out that our NATO allies need to adhere to their commitments which is two percent of GDP for defense." Ryan went on to point out that Germany has the largest economy in the European Union, and that they should uphold the two percent contribution to defense that they agreed to.
