In 2016, Miami had the highest new HIV/AIDS infection rate per capita of any U.S. city, reports Science. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 47 in 100,000 Miami residents has the virus. That's more than twice as many as San Francisco, New York City, or Los Angeles. One virologist said, "Miami is the epicenter of the epicenter of HIV/AIDS in the United States." Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and Jacksonville also made the list of top 10 U.S. cities for rate of new HIV diagnoses. Why is HIV spreading so quickly across the Sunshine State? Tourism is a part of the reason, with more than 100 million tourists visit Florida.
